Trust Nobody, and Inspirations
The single “Trust Nobody” was released in September 2016, and it instantly caught people’s attention. She originally heard Kanye West’s album “Yeezus,” which heavily inspired her to make this song.
Shake expressed her love for Yeezy in an interview with Complex, even saying that he is the reason she makes music today.
Tour in 2017, and Stage Breakthrough
Throughout 2017, Shake was on tour with the rest of the GOOD Music crew. At the first show in Detroit, Kanye was so moved by Shake’s performance and described the performance as:
“This is not a compilation album. This is an album with collaborations. For example, we got 070 Shake on this record, and she trashed it. She’s the newest signee to G.O.O.D Music, but I brought her out on stage to perform.”
Being Unorthodox
In her recent interviews, she has repeatedly said that many of the producers she works with are receptive to her unorthodox ideas. “They don’t want to be making trap beats all day. Deep down, you want to make some Eighties synth-pop or something, but you don’t have anyone to make it with,” she says.
“Any time I work with a producer, we become a band — it’s not just artist and producer.” Modus Vivendi, Shake’s dizzyingly genreless debut album from earlier this year, effectively bears that philosophy out. “I’m open to stepping into every single world of music that there is,” she says.
Exposure to Stardom and the Future
She has also been seen hanging out with Pusha T, Teyana Taylor, and Kanye West and being featured in both The Fader magazine and Rolling Stone magazine. Many things are coming up for this young star, and if you’re a rap and hip-hop fan, you won’t want to miss them.
